NO Class Again

>> Friday, February 27, 2015

Today we didn't have classes again. It's our school's NAT Dry Run. We who are not involved in any way with the dry run were simply told to simply log in and do whatever we want. So I came home to check papers, record and do some of my paper works. In that way I could no longer suffer when we shall have checking and all others before submitting for final evaluation.

For lunch, my sister Sweet prepared these. Pork Adobo with Sweet Potatoes and Creamy Tapioca and Pandan Gulaman for dessert..

I shall go back to school after lunch and meet with my co teachers for some other grade level concerns..

EDSA Rev Soaps

>> Wednesday, February 25, 2015

Because we have no classes today, I made these babies.. Resting for me is doing things that make me happy. Soap-making makes me happy..

These two sets actually come from a single recipe. But some disaster have caused me to make two batches out of this one recipe.

For this recipe we used Canola Oil, extra virgin olive oil, Palm oil and coconut oil made by a local. I do not understand why the coconut oil have caused separation, so that the above soaps instantly traced, while the one below, I had to remove oil and start over like a new batch.. Adding again new mixture of lye and water as well as all the other ingredients.

After many hours, this 2nd batch finally hardened a bit, enough to be sliced..

The final product looked amazing to me, but they are actually layered due to the separation that I have mentioned earlier. The first batch however, didn't separate.

Well, that's today's soaps. I call them Edsa Revolution Soaps, hehehehe..

No Class Today

It's the 29th year of EDSA, so we do not have classes today. Some of the kids from the neighborhood sold suman, and being kids as sellers, I can not help but buy some to help them.

Anyway, the suman they sold were steaming hot, so I presumed they were good. But when I got to taste one, I was simply disappointed. The malagkit isn't pure malagkit. It tasted like some rice was mixed to it.

Anyway, it's okay. We only bought four anyway. I hope that was a big help for them already. We could have bought more though, if they were what we expected.

For lunch, we had vegetable curry. We had chickpeas, carrots, potatoes, sweet potatoes and pineapple bits sauteed and curry flavor was added. It's the curry seasoning I bought in Singapore last December, and this dish became more exciting because of it. Other spices were added like ginger, onions, garlic, peppers, and more.

I love this dish because it reminds me of a curried vegetable dish we tasted in Singapore, that we could not forget..

Prawns for Dinner

>> Monday, February 23, 2015

As I was walking home tonight, I chanced upon a man selling these lovelies, and marked them down because he said he wanted to go home but could not do so until he finished selling them. So I asked for the price, and because it was way more than reasonable, I bought them.

At first I thought they were shrimps, but later at home, I realized that they were actually prawns. Prawns are crustaceans similar in appearance to that of the shrimps, but differences can be distinguished by the gill structure which is branching in prawns and not in shrimp. Also, prawns are related to the crab and the lobster, while shrimps, at some point in their life, are food for the crabs, lobsters and other crustaceans, fish, birds and other animal species.

Anyway, they were cooked much like the Shrimp Adobo, but the taste is different. The meat of the prawn is different from the shrimp too. But we love them both.. hehehe..

After Rehearsals

After rehearsals, we went back to the office and enjoyed these..

Mama Nitz brought them for us. Her husband and kids arrived from Bohol and brought lots of Calamay.. It's yummy because it's still fresh. Perhaps a day old after their arrival yesterday.

I didn't eat much. Just tasted the Calamay and oh it was tempting.. It was very good.

After a few minutes, we all went our separate ways. I arrived home with these Coffee buns with Choco Chips from Baker Bob, which we bought earlier while at LKKS for the rehearsal.

I was also very happy that there was still one pack of this Teh Tarik left at Shop Wise earlier, so I bought it too. Siblings were even more happy, hahahaha..

Before Our Showdown Rehearsal

Tomorrow, our department will be dancing as part of the dance show down of teachers. Actually, there are just three departments for the task, all of us, winners from the previous years' teachers' show down. The other departments were not asked to participate because of the on going NAT reviews. Since the three departments are not included in the intensified reviews, we had to dance, hehehe..

So today, we had final rehearsals. But before we went, we had lunch at the nearby Chowking and Greenwich which are just a wall apart. We sat at the tables outside, the ones in between the two food establishments. Much convenient for the food servers, I must say. Anyway, Mama Nits was not feeling okay and needed soup, so she ordered noodles. Its steaming hot soup is just right for her ailing tummy. Grace ordered this platter from Greenwich.

I kinda drooled over her huge portion of chicken, because my chicken was quite small, hehehe.. Yes, below is my order. Cheat day? hahahaha Burned all the calories during rehearsals..

And since it was cheat day, as I declared earlier, I had this Panda Pao to share with the ladies.. My first time of this treat, and I ordered because I just wanted to taste and see if it's how good it is as per advertisement..

Oh well, its chocolate alright.. But I am not really a fan.. The cute Panda face won me over, hahahaha..

Lunch was quite heavy.. Had a heavy time during rehearsals, hahahahaha.. Still, thank you Universe for a fun day.

Chinese New Year Penne

This recipe can be done simply, but as this case, since it's Chinese New Year today, I have decided to go abundantly with the added ingredients.

The basics would have been just garlic, white onions, cooked sausages and the star of this dish, Upo (Bottle Gourd or White Pumpkin).

For this however, I have decided to add another kind of sausage, the spicy sweet one from SLERS, which when added to any dish, adds a smoky spicy sweet flavor.

Of course the basic spices and condiments for this dish are just the extra virgin olive oil, basil and thyme as well as oyster sauce.

But I have decided to add Oregano, Nutmeg, Rosemary and Marjoram. They add intensity in the flavors of the dish, hehehe..

I also included two kinds of mushrooms, one that is dried and we have to soak in water before using, as well as the canned button mushrooms.

The textures and flavor of these two kinds of mushrooms are quite different. They compliment everything else that I have added, yet retain their individual taste.

So we start of by sauteing the garlic, onions and the two kinds of sausages in extra virgin olive oil.

As soon as everything has caramelized, we add the other ingredients, including some vegemeat.

Add in the corn kernels, followed by the plate of Upo.

Add a cup of water and the rest of the spices, then leave to simmer...

Add a pack of this sweet style spaghetti sauce...

And voila! The sauce that is actually already a meal in itself..

For the pasta, prior to boiling the water, put a few drops of Extra Virgin Olive Oil, some spices preferably Basil and Rosemary, or use whatever you like, then a dash of salt.

Use a colander to separate the pasta from the water, when it's done.. For this recipe, I used Penne..

Putting everything together is the most exciting part. And it is also the simplest. All you have to do is bring the pasta and the sauce together in a huge boil..

Mix everything without hurting the pasta. For the last touch, I sprinkled a few dried cranberries for added flavor. But this is optional.

Enjoy. Happy Chinese New Year.
