Happy Birthday Rafael

>> Thursday, October 30, 2014

My student's birthday was last October 23. He was supposed to have a party to be attended by us and his relatives, but despite the planning, it didn't happen because his niece died due to dengue. Prior to the planning, before his niece died, his mom kept calling me asking how his birthday should be celebrated. Of course, I felt I was never in the position to tell her so I just told her that how she would like to have it is just fine. But I'd be willing to concede should she plan a surprise. She explained that her son wanted to celebrate it with a pool party, and she was asking me so much details which made her decide later on not to concede with the wished for pool party.

Today's was not a surprise for Rafael, because what transpired today, although they are still in mourning, was a mother's promise for her son on his birthday. Not happy as he still misses his niece who was close to him after all, but I guess, somehow, his birthday at school have made it a little memorable.

The kids had an early dinner treat during recess, of burgers and Burger Steak meals. For us teachers, we were given the huge Ultimate Burger Steak, which I have not been able to eat for diet constraints, hahahaha..

Then the blowing of the cake and wishes came..

And of course, picture taking :-)

After that, while the kids enjoyed their meal, we had guessing games.. Questions mostly Q&A about the celebrant. This helps me know who the real friends of the celebrant are.

Of course, before the party ended, the celebrant cut his cake, and left me to continue cutting and serving his guests.. until no cake was left.. I had them take home what's left since Rafael wouldn't bring them home anyway.. His crush got a real good portion, I made sure of that, hehehe..

Tatay's Simple Birthday Dinner

>> Friday, October 24, 2014

It's Tatay's birthday. If you guessed it right, then you may perhaps be reading my blogs through the years. If not, it's ok. But for us, today is a very important day. We usually have simple dinners at home with all home cooked favorites of my father plus the lechon and some sweets which we usually order to add to what we have already prepared.

For Tatay's 65th, we decided to just go to a simple dinner at a restaurant so my mother doesn't have to prepared anything anymore, given that all of us are busy and no househelp to help her. We decided to have it at Philtown since it is just a stone's throw away from where I work. Plus, the Pansit Guisado is very good here.

The Beef was also good, and it was tender too. Tatay loves this very much. It's his favorite here.

For a healthier choice, we opted for the fish dish.

And fried chicken for the kids..

Of course, our usual, easy to decide upon and easy to grab Lechon.. This came with Dinuguan but we didn't have it served since it was just too much already. We reserved it for the beach, which we plan to do tomorrow.

Of course, for dessert, we had Leche Flan, River's favorite, and Tatay's too..

We also had Opera cake, after Tatay blew his candles and made his wishes..

While we were eating, we had entertainment courtesy of Lili.. Tatay enjoyed her exclusive Violin performance, it made him smile all throughout the evening..

Good that we were able to get the board room at such a very short notice. It is usually used for meetings and whatnots at the restaurant. For such a small party of less than twenty, we all enjoyed our simple dinner.

Happy Birthday Tatay.. We love you to the moon and back..

Yummy Strawberries on my Mixed Berry Smoothie

>> Wednesday, October 22, 2014

I love Mixed Berry Smoothie. But today, instead of using half Banana, I am using frozen Strawberries from the supermarket.

My sister is using both for her smoothie, but I prefer just one of the two in my smoothie this morning..

All the usual ingredients, except the fruit is changed.. And voila..

My breakfast shake today.. yum..

Our Supposed Last Day That Wasn't

>> Sunday, October 19, 2014

So today was supposed to be our last day. But then, our teacher said we should do one more to perfect everything. It is actually a good idea as some of our classmates do need more time, like the one who gave us these yummy Polvoron from Davao.. He needed more time, as much as all of us.

Thank you for the yummy treat. By the way, these two just made the yummiest drinks today..

I think I am enjoying Bartending NC II so much, hahahaha..

But I still would go for the non alcoholic lot should you ask me about my favorite drinks..

Thank you Universe for this wonderful night. We went home late because we finished late. But it's all worth it..

Today's Simple Celebrations at the Office

>> Tuesday, October 7, 2014

There were three people who celebrated today. Two birthdays and one very successful defense. So we had free food courtesy of the lovely ladies..

Thank You Mama Nelly for lunch..

Kinilaw

Paksiw

Fried Lumpia Shanghai

Thank you my idol, birthday girl Maam Raffy for these..

Cheese Puto

Before lunch, the food as well as the celebrations were prayed upon.. The birthday girl praying over them, as well as themselves..

In the afternoon, we had two kinds of cake. Above is an over gooey Chocolate Cake with Caramel, and below is Buttercake in Mocha Buttercream.

There was also the usual Pansit from Philtown Hotel.

Before the start of the afternoon snacks, the food as well as the celebrants were prayed upon. This time, it's Mama Nelly praying for the other birthday girl, Ate Haidee..

But wait.. aside from the pansit, there was also Spaghetti given by Sir Luther's student as a post Teachers' Day present for him, which he shared with us..

Oh what a day.. Everyone full and happy..

Eating Balot at Night

>> Monday, October 6, 2014

So the Manong Balot passed by. I asked the kids if they want to eat some, and all three, including my sister. said they wish to.

So immediately, I gave in. I told them to call the Manong when he comes back. When he came around they each bought one balot.

Each eating balot, their own style.

This is how Lili opens her balot after she slurps all the juice.

Of course, it had to be opened this way to reveal the surprise she is always eager to dump into her mouth..

See how passionately she eats Balot? That's how my girl loves this treat.. while others are scared or weirded by such appetite for balot..

Cleaning Glasses

>> Sunday, October 5, 2014

During bartending classes, my sister and I learned that bartenders do not use soap alone to clean glasses. We learned that in order for the glasses to have no stains or water marks, calamansi juice or lemon juice should be used.

Simply wash lemon juice unto the inner portion of the glass, and wipe with clean cotton cloth, from the inside to the lip, to the rim, to the body then lastly, the stem and the base.

Each must have a bartender's eye to see through the light if there are still spots and water marks, then the process is repeated for the rest of the glasses.

It was fun cleaning glasses :-)
