Fried Dumplings in Apple Sauce

>> Sunday, March 31, 2013

We did an improvisation on our Pinsec Frito recipe during Holy Week, and this is what we came up with.

Instead of the chili sauce, we used Apple Sauce and it did taste good.

Yum!

After Puasa...

>> Saturday, March 30, 2013

After the Holy Week puasa, or no meat meals, finally, we had these yummy viands on our table.. We usually eat Lauya or stewed pork during this time, but we decided to have Chicken Pork Adobo and Pork Kaldereta...

These two pork recipes are quite the usual fair when we visit our parents' house, simply because everyone loves to cook these two.. It was my sister who cooked them respectively..

All I can say is that, they were both delicious.. Yum!

Holy Week Delights

Holy Week treats that are usually in every Filipino homes are Benignit or Ginataang Bilo-bilo or Ginataang Halo-halo in Tagalog. For those who do not know it, or are not familiar with it, it consists of a thick mixture of tubers such as taro, purple yam, sweet potato, as well as bananas, jack fruit,  sago, tapioca pearls and sugar, cooked in coconut milk and thickened with milled glutinous rice. It's a warm root crop and fruit stew that everyone loves to eat, in lieu of a complete meal during the Holy Week. Personally, I like my Benignit cold, where it has just come right out from the refrigerator.

Aside from Benignit, there is also Biko, another glutinous rice treat that Filipinos love.

And of course, there is suman too..

So what did you have during the Holy Week?

Lunch on Maundy Thursday

>> Friday, March 29, 2013

Okay..okay.. and I thought we won't be eating a full meal on Holy Week... Well, people in the house agreed on a NO PORK/MEAT meal.. So we had Ginataang Mongo with Fish Flakes and Malunggay...

At least this one, Ginataang Mongo with Fish Flakes and Malunggay, is good for the health, lol.. Another vegetable dish is the Radish Salad that is everyone's favorite...

Radish Salad is best paired with Fried Fish, any kind of fish will do.. and you get the same yumminess in the partnership---

And because it was hot even this early morning, we thought of cooling everything down with Selecta Cornetto...

Twas a great meal..

>> Wednesday, March 27, 2013

I have not been taking vitamin C as the one I had been taking makes me hungry all the time. So I substituted with Vitamin C rich drinks and fruits. I guess they are far better than my Vitamin C...

I thank my sister for insisting that I try Del Monte Prune Juice.. A glass a day, keeps my nose from running, hahaha..

Holy Week Loot..

In the Catholic World, Holy Week is a very meaningful season.. It is a time to reflect, and to ponder on the life of the Lord. There are accompanying rituals such as Puasa, which  is a term used when one is fasting.. that's one of the Holy Week traditions. Puasa, or abstinence from food--- especially Pork.

I got us these goodies to last until they last..
Special Cinnamon Bread from Missy Bon Bon..

This really wonderful soft bread, again from Missy Bon Bon..

Two Kilos of Dried Mangoes from our very own MOGCHS Coop...

And this all-time tempting Moist Chocolate Cake, still from Missy Bon Bon.. We also have 7 huge bags of Big Munch chips.. No, we are not in a party mood--- we are just prepping for our travel back home.. where our puasa will begin.. Oh, by the way, we are NOT Catholics.. do not judge us.

Manhattan Meatlovers Pizza and Galapeno Tango

Okay, okay, so what's good to eat with your pasta? At Yellow Cab, the Galapeno Tango is what's good. If you do not know what Galapeno Tango is, that's the Garlic Parmesan Chicken Wings and Jalapeno Potato Wedges.. I just love the cheesy garlicky goodness in every bite of the chicken.. Of course, chicken would be too much if you have the Alfredo or the Charlie Chan, but then again, who says too much goodness is too much?

Anyway, I had my Galapeno Tango with the Spaghetti Meatbals... The kids ordered it, but then again, eating it makes me feel like a kid too..

Of course, if you have a slice or two of the Manhattan Meatlovers Pizza, your pasta will be perfect.. Hahaha.. Carbo loading as it may be for some, it's pizza pasta heaven for me..

Ice Cream Please...

We all love ice cream, and we eat ice cream whenever we see some..  So, yesterday during dinner, we bought some to cap our dinner. We bought two amazing flavors, that's Chocolate and Serendipity from Yellow Cab. They came in this adorable tin cans, 1/2 US pints in size.

When you are so full from a pasta and pizza dinner, you will want less of the ice cream, so we simply shared.. Even then, the rich flavors still catch you breathless.. Hahaha

I love Yellow Cab's ice cream..

Two Favorite Pastas from Yellow Cab..

>> Tuesday, March 26, 2013

Yesterday, after Lili's and River's recognition, we had dinner at Yellow Cab at Centrio Mall. I could have claimed my birthday gift from  Yellow Cab, if we went to their Lim Ket Kai Center branch, but since my mom will be commuting home, Centrio was the nearest place to be. Anyway, I am not going to talk about what we had, I mean everything that we ordered on this post, rather, I want to feature the pasta dishes that we had from Yellow Cab. I dunno, I just thought, after seeing all the line 6 spider iv, we'd opt for some pasta with our pizza. But then again, we always have pasta with our pizza, lol.

Anyway, we had the all time favorite Charlie Chan, Yellow Cab's chicken pasta dish that's uniquely their signature, as well as Yellow Cab's Meatball Spaghetti, the kids' favorite everywhere we go.

Since I have not claimed my pizza treat from the branch I mentioned earlier, my Lili told me that we shall be going to that branch soon for her meatball spaghetti, hahaha...

What we cooked today: Pinsec Frito

>> Sunday, March 24, 2013

Pinsec Frito or Crispy Fried Wantons is a Chinese dish, although the name sounds more like of Spanish origin. This is easy to make and very easy to do. You will only take more time in the mincing of the onions, carrots and green onions, but after that, everything is as easy as 1 2 and 3..

All you will need is a kilo of  ground pork,  1 and 1/2 cup carrots, minced. You will also need 4 tablespoons of  sesame oil and  1 and 1/2 cup onion, also minced. A piece of raw egg, 2 teaspoons salt, 1 teaspoon ground black pepper,  2 packs wanton wrapper,  3/4 cup green onion, minced also, 1 and 1/2 cup crab meat, and of course and 1  1/2 cup cooking oil, or more, depending on your need.

For the cooking procedure, all you have to do is:

1. Combine ground pork, carrots, onion, sesame oil, salt, ground black pepper, green onion, crab meat, and egg then mix thoroughly.

2. Wrap the mixture in wanton wrapper.

3. Place a piece of wanton wrapper in a flat surface then scoop a teaspoon of the meat mixture and place it in the middle of the wanton wrapper.

4. Dip your finger in water and run it on the sides of the wanton wrapper.

5. Fold the wanton wrapper in a manner where one edge meets the opposite forming a triangle.

6. Gently press the sides to seal.

7. Heat the oil in a frying pan.

8. When the oil is hot enough, fry the wrapped wantons until the wrapper becomes crispy.

9. Remove from the frying pan and place in a plate with paper towel.

10. Serve with sweet and sour sauce or Dim Sum sauce.

Away from Pork especially the Lechon..

>> Wednesday, March 20, 2013

We've had too much of the lechon from my parents' post wedding anniversary family celebration. I have more than five kilos in the freezer and I must say that it is a healthy choice to keep it there until we're ready to eat pork again..

So here's a healthy alternative to lunch today.. Fried fish and warm soup made from fresh greens and tomatoes...

We love this lunch combination..

All in One..

>> Monday, March 18, 2013

Okay--- it's a Belated Wedding Anniversary, Belated Happy Birthday and Advance Birthday Celebrations for us at the beach today...

I bought these treats from a student of mine and my family just loves them... It's Cassava Roll, with peanuts and cheese on top and below is a Choco-Biko, for it's Biko with a chocolate twist.

Since we were having lechon, we bought two different types of Red Wine to go with it.. My aunt bought her Red Horse for pleasure.. hehehe

We weren't really expecting guests so we simply had a simple menu for our lunch at the beach..

The seafood vendor came and we had her grill us some of her fresh squids..

Here's what's left of the Fried Chicken and the Deep fried Pork Intestines fondly called as Chicharon Bulaklak..

 Bam-i for long life..

 Pork Adobo...

 Chicken Macaroni..

 Dinuguan..

and the chocolate cake that was sent back to our pad because there was no more room for it in my mom's refrigerator..

It was quite a day... Tomorrow, it will be my birthday, but I am going to celebrate my birthday on the 25th at Yellow Cab for that will be the date of Lili's recognition at school. I am sure she will get a medal and we'll have to celebrate..  All in One, aye!
