The Thanksgiving of a Collegaue

>> Tuesday, October 30, 2012

My officemate's thanksgiving dinner happened on that same evening when we had our birthday dinner for my father. So I didn't stay long, but left just when they were about to eat dinner. I already told him beforehand that I will leave and that I will not eat, but a glass of Green Mango Shake is all that I will order.

Of course, I left after the presentation of my colleagues was done..

Dinner and a Birthday!

October twenty four had been a busy day for me. I had to go back and forth for signatures, see a lawyer, attended a meeting, did a group activity, and planned a simple dinner in a rush for my father as it was his birthday. Well, we didn't have to eat dinner out if we had food to cook in the house, lol. But I didn't do my grocery yet so there was nothing left but some spaghetti recipe that my sister managed to cook for lunch. I could have bought my father some leather wallets for his birthday, but the money I received that day was just enough for my bills and dues, and his birthday dinner with our family. I asked them where we should eat, and it was unanimous that we go to Lexis Grill since it was just near our school..

We had Ostrich Adobo...

 Some Bulalo...
 Sotanghon Guisado..

 Calamares..

 Sinugbang Ketong...

And my father's birthday cake..

Money was tight in both our households that day, but we somehow managed to make the head of the family happy..

A Simple Meal..

>> Saturday, October 27, 2012

So I had been suffering from some pain in my feet for some time, which I have attributed to so many factors. My sister, to help me go through with the suffering, have cooked me some fish with no salt, each meal.

Unsalted fresh fish tastes good, but frozen ones are not that good. So I am always thankful that we end our meals with simple yet yummy desserts like the one above, candied saba.

So everyday, we have fish, and mine is just unsalted.

Some Good Things Never Last---

I am always fond of coffee and chocolates. But lately, I try to avoid them as much as possible. Let's just say, they no longer leave me feeling happy afterwards.

Not that I would rather buy padron cigars than chocolates and coffee, but I think even the in-take of the yummiest treat need to be regulated too, or has to end at some point. As the song plays in my head, "Some Good Things Never Last", and sometimes too, we decided whether we should go on enjoying something or stop right then and there..

Perhaps sometimes it can be a good treat, but not when you have a set of teeth to take care of, or you want to sleep at night, or if you are conscious of your sugar level and health in general.

Last Week's Meeting at Honey Tree

>> Friday, October 26, 2012

Friday, last week, our bloggers organization had our meeting at Honey Tree Cafe. For the first time in a long time, we were complete. It was a successful dinner meeting, and I just noticed that over dinner, there were just two choices of food ordered.

The Humba Rice and Terriyaki Chicken, which were both yummy. Of course, we mostly had the bottomless lemonade.

Anyway, we usually hold meetings at Honey Tree because of the cozy atmosphere and yummy savory  food and desserts..

Press Conference with a Hunk and a Senator..

>> Tuesday, October 23, 2012

This is quite a late post. Last Sunday, I was invited to join a press conference with Senator Chiz Escudero. I was not able to post right away because I had to do some Disk defrag, plus, I had so much on my shoulder with the In-service Training for Teachers, which started on Monday.

Anyway, we had lunch before the press conference started and here are the food that were served to us.

 The yummy Kinilaw..
 Pinaputok na Ketong..
From the image above, I am sure you will say this dish is Bistek Tagalog, but no. This is not beef but Ostrich meat cooked in the same manner as Bistek Tagalog, only, it tastes yummier..
 Of course, Tinolang Manok Bisaya..
 Pinakbet served in Squash shell..
And who could ever forget the yummiest of all dishes, at least to me, since it is my favorite, Grilled Stuffed Squid..
And everyone's favorite, snapshots with Senator Chiz Escudero and Bryan Llamanzares..
Weee..

Jehovah Jireh

When I first heard the name, I thought we were going to a religious place, where we shall be made to worship Jehovah. When we reached the place at noon, people were lining up and we were literally behind the very long line. So why were people lining up? They went there to eat..

Our department had lunch there today, in between our training. And the images of food you see here are the ones we were served..
The Barbecue was delicious as well as the Bicol Express below..
I do not know what this one is because I was not able to taste this, but I think my colleagues liked this dish..
Of course, the Sinugba was yummy too..
My colleague loved this seaweed dish..
And of course, the Kinilaw that's to die for..

It was my first time to eat there, and I think I am going back for more..

Candies for Halloween

In a few days it's gonna be Halloween. Kids and kids at heart will be marching on the streets with their Halloween costumes and their trick or treat baskets, as they fill them to the brim, from one house to the other. I am sure busy people will be ordering some candies and chocolates from online candy stores so they will have enough to give to kids who will drop by their place for trick or treat.

On the other hand, I know of someone, a dentist, who, instead of giving kids chocolates and candies, hand kids floss and toothbrush. I think that is impeccable. After all the candies and the chocolates, kids do need to have toothbrushes to use and floss to make sure nothing will stick in between their teeth.

But if you ask me, I prefer French Macaroons for trick or treat goodies, lol..

Spaghetti ala Pobreng Mommy (LOL)

>> Sunday, October 14, 2012

I am doing the groceries later. We only have a few ingredients left in our kitchen, hence if we decide to cook something now, we just have to make do with what's in the pantry.

For this recipe, we used the remaining spaghetti, two cans of tuna in oil, remaining slices of  cheese, some shallots, spice powders and some garlic. Who would have thought that this would come out yummy? hahaha.. Another recipe that's really easy to prepare..

Kitchen Equipment You Need Now

If you've recently started your own business or simply would like to suggest great culinary equipment to the restaurant you work at or love to visit, there’s superior kitchen equipment that will help cooking go smoother and in the process create more business. From salad dryers to frying pans that shine, you won’t be able to take your eyes off of quality equipment and supplies that will be the perfect addition to a business that’s thriving. Or, if you’re not already thriving, you will be soon!

Dynamic Salad Dryers – If your lettuce is too wet and you’re in need of a dryer, invest in a salad dryer that will dry lettuce in seconds. This type of kitchenware will also improve the salad quality while cutting down on food costs. Enjoy extra innovative features that come with a salad dryer such as a stainless steel base. Serving salad to customers will be fresh and very tasty.
Cupcake Pans – Pans can get worn down and pick up stains from food that’s hard to get off of them after a while, so it’s important to replace overly used pans with new ones. Find pans that are made of aluminium steel and coated with a glaze that will keep them useful and durable for years to come. By using pans that offer an outstanding surface for baking, you won’t have to replace them as often and baking delicious cupcakes will be all the more enjoyable!
Nylon Spoons – If you have spoons and other utensils that are scratching your other cookware, it’s time to purchase utensils that will not harm your other quality supplies. Purchase a one piece construction that is made of a high temperature nylon that’s heat resistant up to 475 degrees. Plus, with a nylon spoon and other utensils that have a textured surface, you’ll be less apt to let the spoon slip while using it to create delicious meals.
So start cooking your way to success. There is still other equipment that’s necessary as well, such as pizza ovens, dinnerware, and juicers that will help improve the quality of your business. No matter what equipment you own, keep a look out for new quality pieces that you are missing out on so that your business will continue to thrive.

Want Some?

I bought a praying mat months ago from Robinson's and I got it on a sale price. I was very happy that time. My cousin informed me that they are going to look for pews to donate for their parish, and I was really stunned when she told me how much it will cost to order the said sanctuary furnitures. OMG!

Anyway, let's just drop this talk on high prices. How about a free Rack-a-bye meal from Bigby's Cafe and Restaurant? Would you like some?

With the opening of their branch at Ayala Centrio Mall come November 9, 2012, they are giving away a free Rack-a-bye for those who can solve their mystery game dubbed as "Who Ate My Ribs?".. I will tell you more about it in my next posts..
