Tita Fannies Grand Launching of Two New Products

>> Saturday, March 31, 2012

Last March 17, 2012 we attended the grand launching of Tita Fannies two new products, namely Halo-halo sa Buko and TFC or Tender Fried Chicken. A week before that, we were invited also to their food tasting and product presentation event and somehow we already got the glimpse and taste of the two products. However, at that time, we were yet brainstorming for the taste and all others related to the product. Everything at that time were yet subject to change.

When we arrived we were given a number, and soon after,  their offerings were served, staring with the Pinoy BBQ. This is actually on their menu for quite some time, and this is actually a hit along with all the other Tita Fannies products.
Then their new offerings...
The Tender Fried Chicken that we had was quite different from how it tasted during the food tasting. The gravy was more appealing at this time, however, the chicken was no longer as flavorful as that time when it was presented during the food tasting. Nevertheless, the gravy plus the chicken is just right, that it is recommended to eat the chicken with the gravy... and never without it.
Then came dessert.. The Halo-halo sa Buko came and wowed us again. Over-all, it was a hearty meal already. So guys, if you are thinking of a summer treat for your family and friends, why not try out Tita Fannies new offerings, especially the Halo Halo sa Buko. It is perfect for the summer heat..

Dulce de Leche

>> Friday, March 30, 2012

Thanks Tom Udasco for allowing me to use this photo. And NO, it is NOT Chef Hassett Go that I wanted this photo for, lol.. It's that can that he is holding. Do you know what that is? Well, some call it Dulce de Leche, while others simply say Caramelized Canned Milk. And both are actually correct, but it is nice to hear Dulce de Leche than the latter, lol..

Anyway, it is very easy to do this. All you have to do is remove the label from the can, place it in a pot and cover with water. Bring it to a boil, and continue boiling for 3-4 hours. Just make sure that the can is completely covered with water at all times, adding water as necessary.

Chef Hassett showed us a cake recipe where Dulce de Leche makes the cake more yummy..  There are many variations on its use and many ways it can be used as topping for cakes, pastries and even ice cream... If I have to choose between playing the guitar, learning about SKB Cases or learning new ways to use Dulce de Leche, I will definitely choose the latter, hehehe.

Muscovado Rocks

What do you put into your coffee? White sugar? Brown sugar? Honey? Sweeteners? Any alternatives? Or no sugar at all..
My parents have been using Muscovado instead of the regular white sugar for everything in the house. Until they discovered Muscovado Rocks, where just one rock, and the food or drink is good to go..

It's actually a good idea but I still prefer brown sugar which is healthier than white refined sugar...

Homemade Cookies...

Last Christmas, my brother received a box full of cookies from his friend. They were yummy cookies, not only because they are our favorite Oatmeal Chocochips Cookies, but because we know for a fact that they were homemade. Homemdade cookies are far better than those commercially bought cookies, regardless of the name brand.

Cookies are not like cigars, where famous cigars are more patronized because of taste like that of Padron, and all other famous brands. With cookies, famous brands are still commercially made and commercially bought, while homemade cookies are far better whether or not they are famous, expensive and widely bought.

Princess Bubblegum and Her Bubblegum Gelato

Whenever Lili would pass by a cart or the shop of Missy Bon Bon, we'd end up going back and buying her favorite gelato, Bubblegum.

Now these photos I have just found today, and they remind me of how crazy eating Bubblegum gelato was that day..
The double scoop was huge. And Lili thought, it was okay, but then she decided it wasn't. Still she continued to enjoy her gelato, until it wanted to fall off the cone..
But then, it didn't fall off because we took the initiative to buy the cup for P 5, and placed it there.. So instead of a cone, Princess Bubblegum enjoyed her gelato by the spoon.
And eventually after, we ended up having two, one from the cup, and the other on the cone. Technically, we divided the gelato so she can enjoy them both ways.. hahaha

Hurray for Lili and River

>> Thursday, March 29, 2012

My daughter and baby brother received honors yesterday during their school's recognition program. I was so happy. After the program, we asked Lili where we shall have dinner. It was her choice that we had to abide with since she got the highest honor, First Honor, while my baby brother got the Third Honor slot. Being the pizza girl that she always is, we asked her which pizza place, and she decided to go for Shakey's Pizza. Again? Well, she also asked for Shakey's last year, and the other year since she was also the one who made the decision. River's not complaining but told us that next year, he will also get a Gold Medal. So my parents, my sister, the two kids and I, went to Shakey's and ordered Carbonara, Fried Chicken and Mojos, and a thin crust Pepperoni Pizza with their signature iced tea.

My brother who was busy looking for a Scorpion EXO-1000 helmet was not able to join us, but when he arrived this morning, the kids asked him for another round of pizza dinner.

Chicken Charlie - Cagayan de Oro City

>> Tuesday, March 27, 2012

Chicken Charlie has just opened here in Cagayan de Oro City, and we got to try them out last week after our outreach project in Indahag, this city.

We liked the ambiance. The combination of orange and white is just appealing. The place was not packed that afternoon, but when evening approached, people kept coming and going in good numbers.

But of course, what we really liked was the food. It's actually new to our taste buds, except for Mike who has already tried Chicken Charlie during his visit at the Manila Branch. Their signature dish is of course the fried chicken with its special sauce.

If you wanna try their food, they are located at JR Borja Extension.. You may also opt for their side dishes like the spicy cheese stick...

And of course, there are more on their menu... By the way, this is not a paid post.. We were there for an evaluation meeting, and it's at dinner time, so we checked the place out..

Food at DSWD

>> Tuesday, March 20, 2012

During the height of TS Sendong relief operations and information gathering, I volunteered to encode data from all the different evacuation centers and affected areas parallel to the need of the International Organization for Migration. It was a four day volunteer-ship and we had to go to DSWD Region 10 to do our tasks. So we ate at their canteen. One of the many foods served that I find to be unforgettable was the Humba, which looked more like Adobo.

The cut were actually different, but they all looked the same, more or less. Presentation-wise, it was never appealing, but once you smell the yumminess, you will get to order a portion, which cost P 25.00, plus a cup of rice and a cold drink.
Then they had snacks served too. Above was the not so good looking Custard Cake, which was actually heavenly, and the creamy Cassava Cake that's to die for..
All these food were served on a Friday. If you go there on another day, they will have another special for that specific day. So it was not so bad to be eating in their cramped canteen, where there were just a few tables and chairs. The food was great. Ijust do not know if they cook them or they order them.. But of course, there were other viands that came after we finished lunch that were prepared and cooked there, like the Fried Chicken and all others..

Giving a Wine Gift Basket

Have you ever had a difficult time looking for something to give a boss, teacher, mentor or anyone you think is difficult to please? Well, there are absolutely many things that you can consider like age and likes and the list could go on. Add a little flair and then you can think of something. But, if it is really difficult for you to do so, here's a little suggestion. Give a gift basket instead. You can actually choose from a different variety. You can choose chocolate gift baskets, home-care gift baskets and so on and so forth. But if it is a really important occasion, wouldn't it be a great idea to give a wine gift basket?

Wine Gift Baskets exudes a flair on its own. A classy gift given to a person who will feel important afterwards. How they are prepared now is the key. You can actually go ahead and pick up every bit and piece of your gift basket, but you can also go ahead and pick what has already been picked and packed already. So far, it is the simplest and fastest gift idea in the market.
Now, if you order online, you will see images of prepacked goodies already, and most often, a theme for the said pack. Like, the one above is a Wine Trio Picnic Set. That is suitable for giving someone who loves going to picnics, and is already conveniently filled with picnic goodies like chocolates and nuts to go with three different wines. If I'd be given this set, I would think of sharing it with my family on a picnic or a boyfriend on a picnic date. A great gift idea indeed.

If it's for indoor use, the wine gift set above which comprise of Hickory Farms products is a lovely addition to what's been served. Again, there are many more items to choose from, depending on ones choices of course.

So why give wine gift baskets instead of the usual gifts? Aside from what I mentioned above, the most important thing is that, wine makes every occasion more colorful. And healthwise, wine, is a very healthy option, especially the organic wines.

Magnum Ice Cream - Philippines

>> Monday, March 19, 2012

Have you noticed lately that Magnum Ice Cream  is trending in social media and many people are taking photos of themselves posing with a stick of Magnum Ice Cream Classic or Almonds?

Well, it's actually free publicity for Magnum. People simply loved it or simply wanted to be "in" as it is the in thing now...completely hyped, as some people say.. Online people call it a "go-viral" thing...
So here I am with the girls of the CDO Bloggers Inc Officers 2012, posing with Magnum Ice Cream Almonds we bought from SaveMore Capistrano.

We are lucky it just costs P 50 here. In Singapore, the ice cream stick costs $4.25, which, in Pesos is P 148.00--- A bit pricey but worth it! I actually had my first taste of Magnum Ice Cream in Singapore when I was there in 2010. My Tito Noel bought us a tub, and it was perfect for our chocolate cravings.. it's packed with yumminess.. I wish we will have that here too coz a tub is cheaper than buying per stick. It's smaller than a pint, with three bars inside. What we have here is limited. We only have bars in three flavors only-- Classic, Almonds and Truffle, though I have only seen the first two flavors at SaveMore.

And gladly, I will pose once again like this nice shot above...Some people say it is not that great or is too sweet. Well, to each his own, that's all I can say. As for me, I like it since the day I first tasted it in Singapore. There is only one Magnum Ice Cream that is way too much for me, and that is Magnum Gold. It's caramel and gold dipped chocolate is too sweet for me, but that's just it. All the other flavors, I love, especially the Magnum Mint, but again, it's not here in the Philippines yet.. I wish..

As of 2011, two new flavors were added, and that's Magnum Ghana and Magnum Equador. I wish to taste them and see if cocoa beans made into chocolate from Ghana and Equador taste as good. That's in UK and in Singapore yet. In the Philippines...well.. soon, I hope..

My Simple Birthday Dinner

My simple birthday dinner with family has been full of surprises. Aside from my direct family, my two lovely aunts, Irma and Nancy, graced the occasion. I love the simple meal comprised of two native chicken recipes, Native Chicken Soup and Native Chicken Curry, Liempo de Lechon, Spaghetti for long life, and the yummiest cake courtesy of my mother who left for Manila at 9 P.M. for an office related trip.

My father and I butchered the two native chickens I bought at Carmen market for P 200 a kilo. They both cost more than that and I had to pay P 540 for both. But I didn't mind the cost as we were all craving for native chicken. What's good about the chickens is that, they both are about to lay eggs. We got 2 eggs as bonus, plus the orange ones that are yet to develop. Such a lovely addition to Chicken soup.

My mother brought home this yummy cake from Red Ribbon and I swear, this one was a hit. The cake was not too sweet, and definitely, an addition to my chocolate addiction..

The Spaghetti which was cooked by my one and only sister, where she used the left over Keso de bola, which was yet almost whole.

And the Native Chicken Curry.. Yummy..

The Native Chicken Soup with lots of Malunggay Leaves...

The Liempo de Lechon was to die for...

It may look ordinary, but I for me, since I shared it with extra ordinary people in my life, I am happy and blessed to enjoy such meal..
