Craving for Another Vacation

>> Saturday, January 29, 2011

I wanna taste different cuisine. I wanna dine as I travel to the different regions of every point in Asia and the world. I wanna see sights, enjoy sounds and best of all, have a gastronomic feast!

Well, that's what More Food Adventure wants to do. To explore and share what I have experienced and where I have been to. But then, traveling is not at all cheap. Traveling comes with its matching price parallel to whatever you are able to enjoy. If you go to the a beach hotel, or a resort, chances are, the fees are quite high. Add the number of days and multiply the costs. What do you get? A headache I suppose. Well, that is if you do not have the means to pay for such a grand escape!

That is the very reason why some vacation places offer family all inclusive vacations that will help provide an atmosphere where families can grow closer as each member bonds in the process.

Millionaires and billionaires will even agree that a happy family will never be complete without an element of fun and without the bonding process that allows each one to get to know the other.

Affordable family vacations come as easy as the sun. At least if you visit Breezes Resorts, that is. They have all inclusive vacation packages with great deals to choose from. Now that's more like it, right? So you do not just dream of a vacation, but really look forward to going.

Breezes Resorts is the answer to such desires! A great family holiday can be yours without breaking your budget, as Breezes Resorts is known for its family all inclusive vacation packages, and a great destination for family bonding. Fresh air, pristine beaches, wonderful amenities with the luxuries that help every guest relax. Fresh sea food, fruits and all other goodies you would enjoy with gusto! Ah... everybody wants a vacation, I know you do. And affordable family vacations can be yours there.

Planning a Kitchen Adventure with Lili

I thought of making a blt pizza with my little girl, because Lili told me that she wants to learn how to make her own pizza. Previously, she and River had already had a pizza making experience at one of the pizza places here in the city, but making one at home would be another adventure and challenge.

My daughter got excited when I told her about it. I am also going to show her how to do stuffed shells as I have a great stuffed shells recipe, which my grandma has taught me when I was younger. And of course, our family's all time favorite, cheese omelet will have to be handed down as well.

I realized that teaching my daughter to cook or bake at this early will determine her choices later on. Whether she will put cooking as a mere hobby or explore it and its possibilities for a possible future career. My mom taught me how to cook at a tender age too. And with that, I have acquired the skills, although now, I am no longer able to practice from time to time for I am always busy. But maybe with Lili's interests and all, I will be busy cooking again..

Cakes in the Magazine

>> Friday, January 28, 2011

Drooling.. I see cakes and more cakes.. and just when I was about to see more, I was so shocked to notice that a lock on top of a plate that resembled those at Baldwin hardware, is actually a cake designed for a home designer.. Weird design, but really looks nice. I wish I could share all of them I am seeing in this magazine. Unfortunately, the scanner broke and I can not scan them..

I am having a premonition that I will soon want to learn to design and make cake designs as lovely as these.. whew.. Did I really choose the right profession? I guess it's too late for thoughts like that now..

On Baby Showers..

Aside from baby shower invitations, parents to be need to prepare food. And with food, we also consider the cake.Yeah, no baby shower is ever complete without a really nice cake, like the one below:
Isn't it cute? That's a cake from Pots and Pans. A creation by Chef Ed Dychauco. But actually, if you do not want any frills on the cake, you can opt to have cupcakes instead.. There are lots of design to choose from. Aside from the cake, the souvenirs. There are many choices on souvenirs too. But some parents, they give out souvenirs after the baby is born, and attach a photo of them and the child in it.. I think that that is a good idea..

Happy Birthday Sweet..

My sister is wishing for a Linksys router for her birthday..Well, sorry sis, but that wish will not be granted at this time. Anyway, we had a simple Pasta, Pizza and Siomai dinner plus some dinner foodies that we cooked previously. It was swell. I gave her my gift a week ago and she liked it. I am glad she did. It was a really nice scent of Perfume from Victoria's Secret, which I bought from the only Victoria's Secret store in Asia, located at Sentosa. It's original okay. I know some of you have heard of some sellers saying that Victoria's Secret from Singapore is not the real thing. It is! I can vouch for that.. for as long as you buy it from VS and not from Lucky Plaza.
Anyway, have a cake.. This cake from Goldilocks is yummy!

AGUA SEAFOOD RESTAURANT is now OPEN!

My classmate back in college married a chef and they have been operating a restaurant here in the city for quite some time now. Their newest conquest is AGUA SEAFOOD RESTAURANT, which is located at Lim Ket Kai Complex, where the old Kambingan-Isdaan-Sisigan (KIS) Restaurant fronting Café Laguna used to be, just across Robinsons parking. I haven't been there, but we are planning to visit the place soon. Well, that is before Honey and I will leave back to Singapore. I saw the photos shared by them at Facebook and well, I love what they did with the ceiling lights. Great Interiors. The place just feels like a lagoon or something..

See them below:
(Above photo was submitted by David Barstow  at their FB page)
(Photos above and below taken from AGUA SEAFOOD RESTAURANT's FB page)
The said food place will be serving Asian Fusion, Filipino and Seafood food-styles. They are open from Monday to Sunday, 11:00 A.M to 2:00 PM and 6:00 to 10:00 in the evening..

Photos and information were taken from their page at Facebook. (http://www.facebook.com/#!/pages/Agua-Seafood-Restaurant/188768074474633 )

Jennifer and Carlsten, congratulations and good luck on this new resto..

Trains

>> Monday, January 24, 2011

Who would think that traveling by the Railways in Singapore can be so much efficient and exciting. Well, that was how I felt when I was new there. I find their Trains really helpful as we travel along. The intervals are faster and the minutes between each location is really short. But of course, during rush hour, many people will take the train than the bus. I wonder how Trains to Paris would make me feel. Will they be as exciting as those in Singapore? Well, I wonder..

Here are some points to remember, however.

  1. No drinks allowed on board the train. No juice, not even bottled water. But of course, you can have them inside your bag, just don't drink them while on the train.
  2. No eating. But if you are really hungry, alight at the next station as every station have food places nearby.
  3. Do not lean at the train doors.. Of course, if emergency comes, you may fall out..
Anyway,  the drinks above are not allowed so when dining out, finish your drink, hehehe

A Business in Mind

>> Friday, January 21, 2011

My father wants to open a new business. He said he wants to supply printer cartridge as well as printer cartridges or have an ink refill in his newly thought of "ink refill station". He also wants to venture into a travel agency business.. But my goodness. Not one of us wants to agree. We would rather open a food business. How about creating and selling foodies. At least that is so near to what we all wanna do. Plus the fact that we do enjoy cooking, baking and of course, eating. My sister Honey can take care of pastas while Sweet has a great line up of recipes. I can take care of baking..

Anyway, to satisfy my father's wishes, I showed him a site, Printer-Cartridges.com and well, he just loved what he was getting there. All the information in a very accessible website. My father was so impressed of their wide selection of brand names, that finally, he decided to search some more information about building a website and well, do something similar. Hmmm. I wonder what that would be. At this point, he is not telling me.. hehehe

Anyhow, as a good daughter, I guess I will just let this be another biz-adventure of my father's. I just hope he will not end up losing in the business..

C-Box Down

Sorry guys. I have decided to take down my Cbox for the very reason that spammers love to leave their links and unwanted sites there. As you all know, this is a food blog, so why would someone pretend to use food and food related keywords with their links, right? It really is a big problem that I feel I have solved by simply deleting my Cbox.. So if you wanna leave me messages, simply leave a comment to any of my posts..

Thanks

Little Chef

>> Tuesday, January 18, 2011

My niece had been playing with her food, when we noticed that she was not actually playing with her food as any other kid. She was role playing, and she was mixing food, sauteing and stirring food. No wonder she had to have lots of baby clothes waiting for every change, as food particles splat on them as worn while she plays little chef..

Some parents do not allow such mess, and even more so, when food is spilled on the floor. But our little chef does spill any on the floor.  She simply spills them on the table as she sits there too.

Chicken Dinuguan

>> Monday, January 17, 2011

The Garcia family raise their own stocks and plant their own vegetables. So whenever they need to cook something, they have most of the ingredients. At lunch, last Saturday for example, the family patriarch butchered two chickens for our meal. The chicken was cooked in a very delicious recipe of Chicken and tomato sauce with pineapples.
While the innards of the said chickens were cooked into this delicious Chicken Dinuguan. Usually, Dinuguan uses Pork entrails and innards, and cooked in its blood. In the same manner, this Chicken Dinuguan follows suit.
So you have the Chicken gizzard, liver, heart, plus the entrails and all others, chopped in bite sizes, sauteed  in garlic, onions, chilies, and simmered in the chicken blood that has a little vinegar and salt..  It was really good..

Kinilaw na Balat (Sea Cucumber)

Over the weekend, we went to Kauswagan, Lanao del Norte and sampled fresh and delicious foodies in the area.. To start with our food journey in Kauswagan, Lanao del Norte is Kinilaw na Balat.. Balat, or Sea Cucumber is abundant in this area in Mindanao..
The first time I saw the "Balat", I took notice of how "different" they looked from all other sea foods. I thought it was some kind of  mollusk or something. But since Sea Cucumber would not register to mind yet, I got really blank every time "Balat" is mentioned. Actually, there are many kinds of Sea Cucumber and this one that was prepared for us by the Garcia family, is called "Mani-mani" because of how it looked. It is no bigger that a peanut pod, cut in smaller pieces to be made into kinilaw na balat.

The procedure is actually the same as making traditional Filipino Kinilaw, where vinegar, onions and ginger are used. Plus seasoning of course. You will need a deep bowl to mix everything together.. But when this kinilaw will be served, it should be on a more shallow saucer so vinegar will not cook the "balat".

When we ate this foodie, that was when I knew it was something worth devouring..  It tasted like Beef Kilawin.. Swear! I also learned from my mom that the pansit we order from the Chinese restaurants have "balat" as an ingredient. The family patriarch also told us that we can cook Humba using the bigger "balat", and it tastes equally good as the pork Humba.. unfortunately, the "libud" (peddler) did not go around the village the next day..

Thumbs Up Pizza Hut

>> Wednesday, January 12, 2011

Last Saturday, we went to SM because of the brown out. It was our unplanned malling time so we just made the most of it. We ate at Pizza Hut and treated my family to some pizza and pasta. We were okay with the food, but when the pizza below was served and we started eating it, we noticed something.

The Sausage pops at the edge of this pizza has sour sausages, so we stopped eating them in that instant of discovery and complained. The pizza was taken and we were given a new one that is not at all sour anymore. It must be that they had so much of the sausages and perhaps the holidays has spoiled them a bit.  So when we had our replacement pizza of the same kind, we were happy.

Originally we ordered the family deal, where we were served with Viva Roma Italian Pizza  medium size, Spaghetti with Meatballs and Fettucine, and Ceasar's Salad plus four drinks. But the kids loved the above pizza so ordered it too. I also signed my father up for their Pizza Card, where you get another box of pizza for every pizza you order take out or dine in and especially delivery. And we used the card so we were given our third kind, which is my daughter's all time request, as always.. Pepperoni..

And River's and Lili's Strawberry Shakes to match.. the one with Cherry is my little girl's.. Just the way she likes it..
Well, the Sausages were minor stuff, pizza replaced and we all were happy..

People Wanna Go on a Diet in 2011

Well, I have been getting more sleep than food, so that does count, right? hehehehe.. I mean, I  eat less because I sleep most of the time during the day.. Hahaha.. Just wanna make you guys laugh a bit..

Merry after the Holidays?

We have had a really full holidays. Full means, so much food to eat, so much drinks enjoyed, and so much unwanted fats to burn. Whew.. Maybe we should start reading ephedra reviews and how they will work. Maybe we should start clearing off the refrigerator since our ref is still full. OMG! I feel that we should clear up all the pork and beef and stick with fish, fish and more fish!

So is it bad to have so much food? Well, like anything and everything, food should also be taken in moderation. But what temptation there will be if you have so much. Not complaining or anything but, it's the truth. Like what a friend of mine once told me, "Sometimes, having so much food is a curse. Even if you have already shared the said blessing, more food comes". So are you merry after the holidays?

Truth or Fallacy: Eating Nuts and Pimples

>> Tuesday, January 11, 2011

I know some friends who use different kinds of acne lotions, acne prevention or curing soaps and creams and still end up having lots of pimples or acne. And when they visit me at home and I give them peanuts or whatever nuts I have to offer, would decline and say that Peanuts, Cashew nuts, Pili and even Pistachio nuts  can worsen the state of their face. So i end up worrying what to give them if I only have a limited time and budget. So I searched online and found out that not all nuts are harmful. And that, not all nut directly causes pimples or acne. Grooming and the right chemicals that affect the skin have much more to do than nuts. So even if you have pimples, you do not have to really shun away from nuts. Perhaps eat them in moderation and cleanse your skin..

Dinner Date

"Is it difficult to be a Texas truck accident attorney?", Margo asked her date. The guy could not speak out right. It seemed like he didn't know what to answer her. So she changed the topic and talked about her cat. Ironically, after changing the topic, Simon started talking. So Margo wondered if she is really talking to a lawyer or an animal doctor.

Anyway, she shared me a really delicious recipe of their dessert. Guess what it is...

Crepes---  simply follow this basic recipe

You will need the following:
  1.  1 cup all-purpose flour
  2.  2 eggs
  3.  1/2 cup milk
  4.  1/2 cup water
  5.  1/4 teaspoon salt
  6.  2 tablespoons butter, melted
Simply follow these simple directions:

  • Whisk together the flour and the eggs in a large bowl.
  • Add in the milk and water gradually, stir to combine.
  • Add the salt and butter; beat until smooth.
  • In a heated oiled griddle or frying pan, pour or scoop the batter onto the griddle, using approximately 1/4 cup for each crepe.
  • Tilt the pan with a circular motion so that the batter coats the surface evenly.
  • Cook the crepe for about 2 minutes, until the bottom is light brown.
  • Loosen with a spatula, turn and cook the other side. Serve hot.
Well, I am gonna try this tomorrow..  To make the crepes more delicious, one just need to add whatever is wanted, like fresh fruits and syrups. Whatever will work for your taste buds.

Margo's date liked this very much with apples, pine nuts and strawberries. Now I wonder if he knows how to cook..

Cake Design and More..

>> Saturday, January 8, 2011

I have seen lots of designs for cakes, for whatever occasion and whichever age group. Even for professionals and trippers. I even saw cakes in weird designs as well as those extraordinary ones. Well, why not? They're everywhere. Online, in the cake shops, in magazines, and everywhere you turn where there's cake and people. I even attended a party where the cake was designed as speakers for computer.. An old PC at that, lol..It's amazing where ideas for cake designs come from. The designs are truly splendid.

Lifetime Study Center Christmas Program

>> Thursday, January 6, 2011

This photo was taken during the Christmas program of Lili and River's school. And as you can see, Lili is doing her part for this number. This is called "Birthday ni Jesus" and all the kids in this part of the program, represent people from all walks of life who are excited and happy to welcome Jesus Christ on his natal day. So I asked Lili why I do not see anyone wearing nursing scrubs, or any other professional uniform. People in the medical field are always represented in play as wearing scrub tops or white lab gowns and white jackets.

Then with wit and humor, my daughter joked that probably, no real uniform would fit her schoolmates as they are still kids.  Hmm. Yes Lili dear, mommy got your point. Hehehe.. I love it when kids think and give you answers that are quite hitting the mark, while making you aware that as kids, their sense of awareness is also at hand.

I wonder if they had the same food as last year.. I was still in Singapore during their program, I kinda missed my daughter's performance, but I am sure she had fun. We talked about her performances and she was quite happy during the program..

Golden New Year Offering..

>> Wednesday, January 5, 2011

We were not able to buy gold coins for our New Year offering. Good thing we have so many chocolates in gold foils. So we had included them in our New Year table. Had I known that golden rabbit is the motif, I should have bought the one I saw at the Changi airport before I left.

Anyway, speaking of gold, I read that year 2011 is a good year to invest in gold and make more profit  in the months that will follow. My friend Esther, a gold investor, have already made her purchases for the year. And she is expecting more purchases within January as prices are really worth the buy. With this information, I have decided to do the same in the next few days.

Kaya Sandwich Toast and Brewed Coffee at Wang's in Changi Airport

>> Tuesday, January 4, 2011

Kaya is a jam made from coconut milk and chicken eggs, and flavored by pandan leaf that is sweetened with sugar. The spread was said to have originated from Southeast Asia, most likely Indonesia or Malaysia, but other readings also point to Chinese people from the province of Hainan (South China), who worked in kitchens of British ships where they serve toast bread and coffee, and as they settled down in Malaysia and Singapore, they introduced the Kaya toast to the locals. ..

This toast essentially has two basic ingredients. The Kaya Spread and Butter, spread on two pieces of preferably toasted bread. In some instances, if you are making your own Kaya Toast, you can go ahead and spread Kaya and place butter, and place the sandwich into the oven toaster. That makes it easier for it to melt and toast the sandwich at once. Anyway, that's just my way of doing it.

Since Kaya Toast is a popular snack in Singapore and some parts of Malaysia, one will be able to find it anywhere. In this case, at the Changi Airport, at Wang's where we had brewed coffee and Kaya Toast while waiting for my parents and aunts to board their plane.

It took quite some time for the Kaya Toast  to arrive, but with the delicious coffee on hand, we didn't complain.

Of course, when the Kaya Toast was served and coffee blended well with its taste, we all fell silent and gave much concentration to what we were savoring at the time. It was delish---

Note: Another variation of this sandwich is the thicker version called the Kaya Toast Custard Sandwich, where Kaya is thicker and richer, thus making it a heavy sandwich to eat. Not good if you are on a diet. But mostly, it is ordered by kids.

Ice Cream Sandwich Anyone?

When you walk the streets of Singapore, you will easily find a very common figure. The uncle that sells ice cream sandwich for just a $1. The ice cream brand is Walls, which I think is a sister company of Selecta. What's fun about this is that, it is not scooped, rather, sliced.
All you have to do is tell "uncle" your flavor and he will get it from his magic ice box, and slice it for you. He then will ask you where to place the ice cream, whether in between wafers or in between a slice of loaf bread. Which ever you choose, you will have a filling and cool dessert or fun snack.
Aside from the sliced ice cream, he also sells scooped ones but are rather small and placed in cute cups. Much similar to our dirty ice cream, but, much creamier and flavorful than our dirty ice cream.

There! My parents and aunts and cousin enjoying the ice cream sandwich as we walked along Orchard. This is such a fun and cheap way to relieve boredom and distress in Singapore.. I had my first bite of this ice cream sandwich in Bugis..
