SINUGBA TA DIHA... (Lets eat Charcoal Roasted Fish...)

>> Tuesday, June 16, 2009

This here is a great Filipino tradition. From the time of our forefathers, this recipe has already been prepared. So long as there is fire and there is fish, you can have this dish. Although at present, there have already been a lot of variations. Like, I prefer to have mine with all the spices placed inside the tummy of the fish, while juices from prepared spices are spread and massaged all over the body (including the head) of the fish, before it is being cooked... that my friends is so yummy...

BAMBOO SHOOTS GALORE

SQUID ALA MOMMY DHARLZ

June 12 we celebrated Independence day and after the weekend we have the 59th Charter Day celebration of Cagayan de Oro City.. What a holiday... A long holiday entails family togetherness. What better way to celebrate at home than to prepare the family’s yummy feast.. Well, technically, I only prepared two dishes yesterday.. and I am sharing them in this blog. I have also shared them at Just The Tip Of The Iceberg….and at Empowered MOM.

You’re the 1, Goldilocks!

>> Sunday, June 14, 2009

Remember my previous post at Just the Tip of the Iceberg, about me craving for a Goldilocks Egg Pie? Here is my post as to why I love egg pie so much and what memories every foodie from Goldilocks carry.. Well, who would ever remove such a sweet delight from your system if the entire family loves it so much... My mom was the culprit. She would buy this yummy egg pie as "pasalubong" for us after work. And when Lili and River came, they have developed the taste also... If you ask my mother, she would say that it was also developed from her mother, Lola Berta, who happen to love the egg pie just as much as we do...

Actually, it's not only the Egg Pie that we love but GOLDILOCKS itself.. The Egg Pie is simply one of our favorite treats. In the same blog, I posted that when I received my blogging incentives, I bought my daughter her favorite Goldilocks foodies, the egg pie and of course the Choco Buttercreme Cake.. She likes the latter because of the real chocolates on it. She loves to munch on those yummy minnie choco mallows and the chocolate bits... Ha! Like mommy, like baby... tsk..tsk.. tsk...

Not to mention, my father's birthday is always celebrated with his Goldilocks Cake... Actually,

And when my Aunt Irma celebrated her 55th birthday, my cousins and I bought her her Goldilocks cake..

When we graduated from training at Convergys Cebu, our trainer gave us a Goldilocks cake too..

Goldilocks just makes every happy moment happier than it already is.. But you know what? I also have my down moments that Goldilocks have helped ease away. I remember, when we were in grade school, there was no Goldilocks branch in Cagayan de Oro City yet. Our sole provider of Goldilocks popcorn was my Tita Carie who lives in Cebu then. She would send us our favorite Caramel Flavoured Popcorn whenever someone would come from Cebu. So one time, in grade school, (and that was a long time ago, lol...) my classmate bullied me and made me cry. He was pulling my long hair so that when my yaya (nanny) arrived to fetch me and my siblings, I was really feeling down. Then my nanny handed me the pack of caramel popcorn, saying that my Lola Berta was waiting for us at home, I immediately have forgotten about Joseph the Bully and gave my nanny the biggest smile ever. See? hehehe...

Now, Goldilocks opened its doors here in Cagayan de Oro City when I was already working. They had no meals yet at that time, so we were limited to having our favorite sweets, cakes and pastries only. When I moved to Cebu, that's when I realized how much Goldilocks Cagayan de Oro City lacks in all the delicious meals that Goldilocks serves... My favorite is Dinuguan and I was really happy when I saw that there were already take out packs that can easily be reheated, even in the office... Everyday I was in Goldilocks heaven... yum..yum...

Anyway, at present, two of the Goldilocks branches serve as a food shop too, so when I crave for Dinuguan, all I have to do is go there... (the 2 photos above were from the Goldilocks website... borrowed just to stress a point...hope that is okay..wink..wink.. )

But you know, the greatest memory that Goldilocks have witnessed in my life, was the birth of my daughter-- the greatest gift I have ever received form God... Well, it is kinda funny actually, and a bit crazy.. See, my daughter was born at 2:10 am of June 28, 2005. I had friends over the night before because they were waiting for her to come out on the 27th.. They got bored because nothing was happening at that time, so they decided to go to Divisoria to buy a few things, food and stuff to keep them alive while I was on labor. Then they met another friend of ours who was bringing my favorite Brazo de Mercedes for her to take to the hospital, but she did not know which hospital and no one informed her, lol.. So she tagged along and waited with the rest of the guys.. After the baby came, I rested and soon after, was sent to my room. There I saw all the food and stuff that they left with a note that they are coming back as early as 8am. Ha! They came back in the evening actually... Well, I was grateful that my friends were there... So anyway, my sister Honey was the only one left as the Madonna Management have restricted only one watcher for every patient. My room was at the top floor and my sister was really tired and sleepy... So we slept. The baby was left at the nursery anyway.. At 6am, we were both awake and felt that we were hungry.. so we opened all the food and found that the only descent food to eat was the Goldilocks Brazo de Mercedes.. all the rest of the Jack n Jill goodies can not be eaten for breakfast... Can't eat Chippy for breakfast you know.. lol... Then the hospital food arrived, and I went back to sleep. (Photo here was taken from the Goldilocks website also... )

When my parents arrived, they had a cousin who tagged along with another cake.. UGH! I had to resist.. Doctor's order... hehehe.. Zarelle came and everybody had a grand cake feast again...

Now, speaking of Lili's birth, I am updating this post to share with you a slide show of Lili's 4th birthday---

Her birthday was celebrated again with two birthday cakes..

one from me,

and one from her daddy---

You're the 1 Goldilocks because I can't remember an important occasion without you... You have served families from generation after generation... From my Lola Berta, to my mom, to me and to my Zarelle... You have made our lives truly memorable... THANK YOU...
